Christian recovery from mental illness, childhood sexual abuse, and addtiction

Surrender and Win

What if I told you that the best way to win your battle with PTSD, addiction or mental illness was to simply give it up? Stop wasting your precious energy on a battle that is already won.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Dictionary.com defines rest as, “to relieve weariness by cessation of exertion or labor.” The peaceful rest that Christ offers is yours for the taking! It requires the simple (yet challenging) act of surrender. There is nothing more laborious or exerting than our battles with alcohol, drugs, PTSD and mental health.

To surrender means to yield to a power greater than yourself – to relinquish the burdens that are causing you to be under duress. God knows the pain and exhaustion of our battles. It is more than we can bear, but He can handle it. He is waiting for us to hand it over to Him.

Why not try? If your way isn’t working, then try something different – surrender to God. Here is an example of a surrender prayer, “God, please accept me as I am. I need your help. I realize that my burdens are heavy, and I need you now more than ever. Lord, I ask you to take my burdens from me. I surrender it all to you. Please remove my burdens so that I can be of better service to you. In Jesus name I pray – Amen.”

You have nothing to lose and peaceful rest to gain. You are worthy! You are loved!
